4 x 6 Label Printers

Argon Technology sells 4-inch direct thermal shipping label printers and blank 4x6 shipping labels to businesses in Canada. We have a wide variety of printers from leading brands like Zebra and GoDEX and stock everything you need to get started printing your own professional shipping labels.

Whether you ship with Canada Post, UPS, FedEx, Purolator, or Canpar, we have a direct thermal printer that can quickly and easily print 4" x 6" shipping labels for your specific needs. Need to print LTL bill of lading labels or pallet labels? We've got you covered.

4 x 6 Shipping Label Printer Considerations

Because shipping labels do not need to withstand the test of time as product labels do, you can use a lower-cost direct thermal printer for your shipping needs. Direct thermal technology uses a heated printhead and thermal-reactive labels to produce your labels, so there is no need for a separate ribbon. This makes direct thermal printers both more affordable and easier to use than their thermal transfer counterparts.

When choosing a direct thermal printer for your business, you'll want to consider the following factors:

  • Print speed: How many labels do you need to print per minute or hour? Printers in the 3-to-7 inches-per-second range are typically sufficient for most shipping applications.
  • Resolution: Most direct thermal printers print at 203 or 300 dpi (dots per inch). If you need to print barcodes or very small text, you may want to consider a printer with higher resolution. 203 dpi is more than sufficient for shipping labels, pallet labels, and bill of lading labels.
  • Print width: Many direct thermal label printers can accommodate a maximum label width of four inches, but some industrial models can print labels up to eight inches wide. Due to the 4-inch size of Canada Post, UPS, FedEX, Purolator, and Canpar shipping labels, you'll need at least a 4-inch direct thermal printer.
  • Connectivity: Do you need to connect the printer to the LAN so that multiple users can print to it? Or do you need a USB or serial connection for a single PC?
  • Applications: For busy shipping departments, we recommend having a dedicated printer specifically for printing your shipping labels, bill of lading labels, and pallet labels. With a printer always ready to go, you'll never have to worry about delays in your shipping process.
  • Form factor: Another important consideration involves the type of printer. In general, desktop units are an outstanding choice for printing shipping labels. They have a compact footprint, are relatively affordable, and are easy to operate. All of the 4 x 6 shipping label printers we recommend fall into this category. If you need to print large quantities of labels, however, you may want to consider an industrial direct thermal printer. These units can handle much larger rolls of labels and usually offer faster print speeds and higher print resolutions. Of course, they also come with a higher price tag than desktop models.

Recommended 4 x 6 Shipping Label Printers

We carry a wide variety of direct thermal printers that can print four-inch-wide shipping labels. Here are our recommendations:

If you print 500 or fewer shipping labels per day, choosing a desktop shipping label printer is a great option. Desktop shipping label printers hold 1-inch core-based labels. However, when you print between 500 and 1500 labels per day, we recommend stepping up to an industrial shipping label printer. Industrial shipping label printers hold much larger label rolls with a 3-inch core and an 8-inch outside diameter (OD). Plus, they print at a faster speed. Fan-folded shipping labels can be used with both desktop and industrial shipping label printers.
